This article describes how to move the main Artisan database from one computer to another.

NOTEIf you anticipate needing additional assistance with this please make sure that you make these changes during our normal office hours to avoid additional support charges. By scheduling a tentative appointment we will be able to have somebody available to assist you if necessary. This may or may not be covered under your existing support contract. Please verify before you begin to avoid any delays.

On the new computer:

1 – If your computers are networked please make sure your network is working. Follow the Networking and UNC Path instructions.

2 – Install any necessary drivers for POS devices you will be using. Make sure you know what ports they are connected to. When using Generic Text drivers you can name the drivers for the the device it will be used for eg. Receipt  =  for the receipt printer.

3 – Install Artisan.

4 – When you are sure you are ready open Artisan, make the choice to Start with Real Data, as this is the main computer you will also select use the Default location for a Single Station (the data will now be stored locally on this computer). Now select Load Directory with Data Restored from Backup. This will be the most recent backup you created on your old computer. A backup file is named by the date it was created – ASYYMMDD.zip.

5 – Once the Restore is complete you will be prompted if this is a Brand New station or the Replacement for an Existing station – This is a replacement, make that selection and then choose the correct station this computer is replacing from the list presented to you. By using this option all your per station settings in Artisan will be copied to this new station.

6 – You will now need to setup your devices in Artisan. From the GO menu at the top of the screen select Device Configuration (the last choice)=>Printers.

Go into each printer configuration and select the new printer driver from the pop up list in the Printer Name field. You should not have to change any other settings in this screen and you can print a test using the Test button on the bottom right of the screen.

Your in business if the test printed successfully. If the test did not print you may need to verify the port that this device is connected to, if you can print a test page from Windows the printer will print in Artisan. You cannot print a Windows test page for label printers.

7 – From Device Configuration=>Cash Drawer test that the cash drawer opens. The cash drawer will not work if the receipt printer is not working.

8 – If you have a Pole Display verify under Device Configuration=>Pole Display that it is associated to the correct Port. There is also a Test button on the bottom right of this screen for you to verify the Pole Display is working.
